Founded by Merrie Cherry, in 2013, the Brooklyn Nightlife Awards was created to celebrate queer nightlife culture in Brooklyn. It became an opportunity to recognize the people shaping nightlife from the ground up: DJs, performers, bartenders, photographers, producers, drag artists, venues, and musicians.
Recently, Merrie passed the platform to Senerio, a 17x Glam nominated Music Artist based in Brooklyn, and now he’s expanding it into something much bigger than just one awards show a year.
Under new direction, The Brooklyn Nightlife Awards has grown to a digital platform in conjunction with the live award show - broadcasting highly produced DJ sets, artist interviews and performances in collaboration with Milliron Studios.
Nightlife influences everything—music trends, fashion, internet culture, dance culture, even slang and aesthetics. But the people creating those moments rarely own the platforms documenting them or profiting from them. Brooklyn Nightlife Awards creates visibility, celebration, opportunity, and documentation of the scene in real time.
